Tenochtitlán, the main city of the Aztecs, means in the original language, Náhuatl, “the navel or bellybutton of the moon”. Strange name if you know nothing about their culture and the logic of their tongue. That changes when you learn that, in Náhuatl, when someone wants to know your origin, where you were born, the question translates literally to “where is your navel buried”, referring to the place where your navel cord was disposed after being ejected from your mother’s womb. So maybe, Tenochtitlán is the place where the moon came to be! Every language is a new and different world.

I find english language very hard. More I learn more harder it gets. Plenty of meaning for one word is the worst.
This is great to learn different languages.
But it's the duty of speaker to maintain the authenticity of one individual language.
Tamil ,hebrew, Arabic, Persian are some of the greatest example.

Obviously her education in Spanish language never went beyond learning the alphabet. That shows in the poor example she used at 9:15. She seems to have a command of the English language though, considering she is a native Belarusian.

I am a translator to the UN, who speaks 62 languages, the most number of any known person. This is true – but mainly for core languages. You cannot translate between some languages as the concepts behind are different. However, many 2nd or 3rd language speakers learn a new tongue in the perspective of the first, which dilutes the original languages. Also, your first language directly dictates how you learn other languages.

In my language – Estonian – we don't have any genders whatsoever, not even she and he. And we don't say to animals "it" as we perceive them as alive beings. For us the gender consept in Indo-European languages is very hard to understand, things are just things, not female and male! 🤷🏼♀️

5:00 Interesting I can only speak American English and I think of time as starting from present on the left going back to the right in an up, down, up, down switching every 100 years until 1500 AD. When it switches to an arch. But these are not permanent they switch alot depending on what I'm researching. but those have been the most common ways I looked at time since I was young.
